L-Palmitoylcarnitine-d3 hydrochloride is the deuterium labeled L-Palmitoylcarnitine hydrochloride. L-Palmitoylcarnitine hydrochloride, a long-chain acylcarnitine and a fatty acid metabolite, accumulates in the sarcolemma and deranges the membrane lipid environment during ischaemia. L-Palmitoylcarnitine hydrochloride inhibits K_ATP channel activity, without affecting the single channel conductance, through interaction with Kir6.2^[1].

Stable heavy isotopes of hydrogen, carbon, and other elements have been incorporated into drug molecules, largely as tracers for quantitation during the drug development process. Deuteration has gained attention because of its potential to affect the pharmacokinetic and metabolic profiles of drugs^[1].
